A large perception of Islam in America is very negative due to the fact, they have taken a mad-man named Osama bin Laden as their teacher on the subject. Causing many to become intolerant and holding us all as terrorist. I've received several death threats, suffered assault on many occasions, and have been referred to as a terrorist on many occasions. Not to forget being told "Go back where you came from" (I was born in America)
Osama bin-Laden does not display any of the teachings of Islam, and go's completely against the Qur'an. "Whoever kills a human being… then it is as though he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves a human life, it is as though he had saved all mankind." (Quran, Surah al-Maidah (5), verse 32)
The best advice I can give for perception and education on Islam is. "If you want to know Islam, Study Islam, not the Muslim" Islam is a religion of peace, but it does not mean we have attained perfection in our actions" However there's no excuse for Bin Laden. This man has hijacked the name of my religion.
