Peugeot 205 TU engine - when the engine is hot you don't have start - the starter does not turn at all -all the lights in the dashboard dim you've even done the servicing of the starter - help plse?

Had a similar problem with a Ford Escort, turned out to be the camshaft nipping up when hot and preventing the engine turning freely. When cooled down it started fine. Changed the camshaft and had no problem. Compare turning the engine by hand when cold to turning the engine by hand when hot. Maybe worth checking out. Yeh that sounds like a good idea mate, to turn a 205 engine when cold jack up one front wheen an inch off the floor, put it in 4th or 5th and turn the wheel. This is advice form a haynes manual
