Plants make their own 'food' by converting the Sun's energy into photonic Food for the Plant.

Photosynthesis: light [and infra-red thermal] energy from the Sun is absorbed into their Cells and they produce the sugar GLUCOSE.

Biochemistry takes GLUCOSE and makes many, many other bio-molecules.

Plants make their food through Photosynthesis. This only occurs when the conditions for survival are good, E.g. Enough sunlight, water, humidity... etc.

Plants have organelles in their cells called chloroplasts these absorb pigments and take in photons of light from the sunlight and use ATP which is the main energy source in all living organisms. By the use of ATP the plant is able to convert the compounds it receives (carbon dioxide, oxygen) into glucose which is a sugar component. This is the food source. It's more complex than this but I've tried to make it brief.
