A boy named Ryokun who loves to go to the Herons Forest where it stood like an Island among the fields. Ryokun loves the forest day after day he come back to it as though to store up memories of his childhood. Cryptomerians, were Ryokun and two of his friends together hardly reach round. Before them stood a torii of the shrine. With a shout Ryokun and his friends dashed into the forest were they see a cryptomeria that grew a slant. It had been blown by a typhoon long ago

And grown in that way. The first to reach the tree would climb it up then the game was to see who will climb higher. Ryokun was the first at the trunk he run at 14 to 15 feet up it then his dash from the edge of the wood exhausted and then lost his impetus. This was the moment to bring his muscles consciously into play and race down to the ground. The least slip meant a fall or at best slithering down the trunk, the tree is smooth and Ryokun goes down and down. Ryokun loved the thrill. His feelings during those few seconds were complex, for a slit seconds his head felt empty. Involuntarily, in the moment of panic, he would cry out "mother"then once more the headlong run down, Ryokun loved the thrill of the rush up the tree. It made him feel lonely or sad or uneasy such feeling. So thet it always made him think of her. At other times she no longer existed for him. Straining to beat his friend. Ryokun raced up the tree. At the end of the run he was suddenly afraid and the height of the tree terrified him. Below his companions was still shouting him from falling. Ryokkun tried to look triumphant. He wanted to cry but of this, his friend knew nothing how could he get down? He could not move. Gradually his fingers are growing numb and the bare foot he pressed against the undesired of the trunk. Hot and red faced, all confidence drained out of him. He looked up a small patch of sky peered down through the trees "mother" he was sorry had ro come so high and never run the tree again. Ryokun began to slip. It was up to his hands and legs how to save him. A few inches at a time, the rigid body slipped. At last he was standing on the grass at the foot of the tree. His friends was relieved nor Ryokun. He felt uneasy too towards his friends as though he had been expected. Then they walk away at the tree then suddenly one boy run and followed by the two boys and climb at the two camellia tree safe because of its branches. They sucked the pistils of the camellia while ryokun remember his mother. There perhaps, in the fugitive sweetness of each dying flower, was the taste of Childs loneliness, to which his mother had abandoned him.
