Best Answer
Charging System Output Voltage RangeTo my knowledge, unless there are vehicles that are exceptions, the acceptable output voltage specifications for all auto alternators is within the range of 13 volts to a maximum of 14.6 volts.

How does an alternator know how much voltage output?

Output of the alternator is controlled by the voltage regulator.

What does a dodge voltage regulator do?

It controlls the output voltage of the alternator.

What is the Function of an alternator regulator?

It controls the output voltage.

Why is there change in terminal voltage as load applied to a three phase alternator?

The AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) control the DC field voltage to the rotor of the alternator, as soon as higher load is demanded from the alternator, the AVR output voltage go higher, hence, a higher AC voltage on the output of the alternator. If the voltage go to high then the AVR is faulty.

How do you adjust alternator on 2000 dodge neon?

The alternator is not adjustable. The computer controls the voltage output.

Powertrain Control Module plus BB Voltage Low?

Low plus bb voltage to the Power Train Module means that for some reason the voltage actually is too low. Check the battery an alternator for the proper voltage output.

Your volt meter reads 16 volts at the battery at idle The alternator and voltage regulator have been replaced Do you have a problem?

Alternator Output Voltage RangeGenerally, alternator output voltage is consider OK if it is in the range between 12 1/2 volts to a maximum of 16 volts. Therefore, although the output is at the maximum, you do not seem to have a problem.Usually, if the battery has had a lot of drain, then the alternator output will run at the maximum until the battery is fully charged.

How much voltage does an alternator put out?

Automotive Alternator Output VoltagesWith a properly operating alternator, AND electrical system, a voltage output range of 13.5 Volts to 16 Volts is considered acceptable.Just the alternator puts out around 120 vac, but most newer alternators include a built in rectifier that limits voltage output to between 13.5 and 15.5 volts DC depending on speed.

Does a voltage regulater make the car run?

No. It controls the output of the alternator.

What is meant by regulation or an alternator?

Regulation of an alternator is varying or adjusting the d.c. current flow (excitation current) in the revolving field coil to control the output voltage. When an alternator is subject to varying load conditions, and therefore changing load resistance at the output, the output voltage will vary in response. When output voltage is reduced in response to increased load (reduced output resistance), the "voltage regulator" will respond by increasing the excitation current to increase the voltage output. If load is reduced, the generator will momentarily become over-excited and the ouput voltage will increase. The voltage regulator responds by decreasing excitation current, returning the generator output voltage to its nominal level.

What is the function of the regulator in an alternator?

To control the alternator's output voltage under varying loads. In simple terms it regulates the voltage being sent to the battery.

Should your 2002 ford windstar keep running if you disconnect the negative battery cable?

Probably not. That is a very dangerous test. You create a voltage spike when unhooking the cable with the engine running. This spike could damage any of the computers on the car. The proper way to check an alternator is by it's output voltage when under load.Probably not. That is a very dangerous test.
