You don't state a reason for wanting to do this,but Volkswagen has a Recall for the "Drivers Side Airbag". You should have already received your letter in the mail (I received mine 8-9-08). When you take your car in for this Recall/Campaign,perhaps the Dealership can assist you in removing the airbag if you find this is still necessary. Good Luck! Owner of a 2003 VW new beetle.

Well, if it's anything like my 2004 Passat, then there is a little lever on the driver's side wall under the dash/steering wheel, next to the front of the driver's side door. Pull it toward you. I looked all over for this & missed it several times because I thought it was just part of the plastic coving on the side wall. Seriously, it just looks like a lumpy outcropping of the plastic near your left shin.
