That depends on the type of vehical, front wheel drive or rear wheel drive. Rear wheel drive vehical: Removing the transmission is the best way to go. there is less to un-hook from the trans then the motor. Also during reassembly the torque converter has to be placed on the trans and turned twice, you will feel it click into place (go on further) it must be seated before reassembly. Front wheel drive: Sorry i have no experience with front wheel drive.

The trnsmission on that car is removed by raising the car on a hoist, supporting the engine with a special engine support tool, removing the lower engine cradle assmebly, and removing the transmission out through the bottom of the vehicle.

After removing the inspection cover on the under side of the transmission, you will see the torque converter. Remove the three bolts from the converter to flex plate. You will have to rotate the engine to gain access to all the bolts. If you can not rotate engine, you may pull the converter with the engine, it will slide out of the transmission, but you will have to pull engine more forward upon removal. There are six bolts that hold the transmission to the engine that will need to be removed. After removing these bolts the engine should be ready to be removed from transmission. There are two alignment pins on the back of the engine about 3/4" long. Once you have the engine lifted a bit to take the weight, rock it back and forth a bit to free it from the transmission, engine should slip free of the transmission.
