1. safely raise the rear of the vehicle, place 2 jack stands on the rearend, (not the

frame).

2. place a tire stop on the front tires,(avoid run-away syndrome).

3. disconnect the brake cable, (***no tools needed, simply look the hand brake pedal, next to the electrical box on the drivers side floor board- disengage with your fingers). **** do not use any tools on this cable.*****

4. remove rear wheels.( you may want to photograph the assembly with cell phone)

5.#13 socket, remove rear calipers, do not allow the caliper to hang,(use string, wire, etc to tie the caliper to the vehicle). remove the pads, note: the inner and outer pads will have caliper wear marks, examine your pads for irregular wear or major cracks.

6. #18 socket, remove bracket assembly.

7. remove the rotor with your hands. (do not use pry tools) if stuck, push and pull a

few times.

8. examine the rotor for irregular wear, groove marks, including the inner drum. Send the rotor to Orileys to check the thickness and to get them turned.

9. examine the rear shoes, (spray with brake cleaner). generally the only problem with

this portion will be the actual hardware kit) and not the shoes.

10. if shoes need replacing, photograph the assembly first.

11. use a 5/16 wrench or socket to remove the shoe anchor (1 per side) , remove shoe.

12. carefully examine the adjuster,(note: Chevy used a very simple concept that

works).*** the rear hardware kit, sold separately will include all items needed

including grease.

13. all parts needed available at Orileys, purchase their ceramic QC series includes

diagram,(excellent Wagner product).

14. rebuild adjuster assembly if needed (rear shoe hardware kit will include parts).

15. install shoe, use new screw and anchors supplied by Wagner.

16 clean the shoes after you have installed them and before replacing the rotor.

17. install the pad bracket, torque to specs, (ask Orileys).

18. install new pad hardware, use a very thin coat of brake lube on the chrome pieces.

19. install pre-treated pads, in the order that they were removed, (look at the pad

silencers). Thousands of products available; just go to Orileys.

20. install caliper with the pistons pushed in. (use an old pad and caliper tool to push

the piston). note: rebuild calipers will come with the piston pushed in, ready to go.

carefully examine the brake hose for cracks, tears, etc..replace if bad.

21. double check your torque specs prior to installing the rim.

22. turn the wheel to make sure your rotor turn freely.

23. repeat the procedure for the other side.

24. reconnect the brake cable with your fingers, no tools.

25. note the hand brake in these trucks is "very soft touch" when applied.

26. generally speaking, the rear shoes will be used again.

27. check brake fluid level and close the reservoir.

Pump the brakes several times, press and release the hand brake several times.

28. if the pedal fine, then lower vehicle.

29. lower vehicle and road test.

30. take your time, its not very complicated, you'll be surprised.

*** if both your rotors are under specs, (to thin) I would suggest replacing with pre-drilled-slotted type rotors.*** expensive upgrade but worth it.

*** if replacing calipers, its recommended that you replace both sides. and you will

have to bleed the brake system and install fresh brake fluid.

in closing, don't cut corners when it comes to your brakes, "replace when in doubt".
