check timing. timing advance. or slack in timing chain/belt
With a timing light of course. Your crank pully should have 2 marks on it, the first mark is for the leading plugs and is 5 degrees AFTER top dead center (atdc) and the second mark is for trailing and is 20 degrees AFTER top dead center (atdc). Your 85 should have vacuum advance on your distributer, be sure to unplug the vacuum line and cap it off while stetting your timing. Trust me when I say, use only your timing marks, playing with your timing on rotaries causes all sorts of problems

sounds like a sparkplug is fouled or the timing is off
not sure what year you have but on 1986-1991 it is on the ignition coil closest to the battery
Number one chamber is the one closest to the distributor or crank angle sensor, number two is closest to the firewall. T is top and trailing, L is lower and leading. On the distributor cap the holes are marked L1-L2 etc.
the way a rx7 engine misfire can be cause by having bad spark plugs or either wires. The timing is incorrect and needs to be adjust. it can be adjusted by using a timing light. another factor that can cause misfire is having your throttle position sensor(TPS) out of wack. it is located right on top of the water pump housing. there is a write up on fixing this on http://fc3spro.com/main.html
check out rotary engine illustrated - there is a video you can download that shows how the timing works. if you search it on google then you will find it.
