replace or rebuild engine, its kaput!
YES BUT. YOU SHOULD USE THE 1996 CRANKSHAFT AND THE 1996 INTAKE SO YOU NEED TO DISASEMBLE BOTH ENGINE TO DO ONE
You don't, you replace or rebuild the engine.
Regular servicing.
balls?
Never. The Saturn S series vehicles used a timing chain instead of a timing belt. And the chain is inside the engine, bathed in oil to keep it lubricated. The timing chain should be replaced whenever you rebuild the engine.
I am not sure how much it would cost to rebuild the engine, but I just did an engine swap on my saturn. The engine cost $325 and it had 102,000 miles on it. Keep in mind that this price doesn't include the price for the oil/filter, coolant, sparkplugs/wires. All said and done my car was up and running like a new car for under $400.00. The hardest part of the whole thing was actually finding an engine for it.
A timing chain should last the life of the engine. Timing chains are INSIDE the engine and as such are constantly oiled. By the time the timing chain and/or tensioning mechanism is worn out, it's about time to rebuild the engine.
Whenever you rebuild the engine.
If you are mechanically inclined it is cheaper to replace the entire engine
Timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine and are normally replaced during a complete engine rebuild. Unless it gets noisy there is no need to replace it.
