He most certainly did not. Louis XVI was a very kind, shy, man who was very indecisive, but who had a warm heart for what he called "his good people". He and his wife (Queen Marie Antoinette) donated a lot of money to hospitals, orphanage's, etc. and he tried to make the best of the situation France was in at that time (France was declared bankrupt in 1783).
He was the only king France has had in a long time who actually cared more for his people, than for himself. Louis XIV and Louis XV were true narcissists and cared only for themselves, but Louis XVI really tried to make a change. It was in vain though, since France had been poor since Versailles was build (by Louis XIV) and since France decided to mingle in the American Revolution (for which there was no money and drained the treasury even further, a decision made by Louis XV).
By the time it was time for Louis XVI to take over the reign of France, the French felt it was the royals' fault they were poor and decided to take the American example by revolting against them. And actually killing them.
Nobody should be killed for any reason.
However, if you mean, was his execution just by the law of the day?, then yes; he was guilty of treason in that he corresponded with the armies invading France, and attempted to join them.
Yes, he was beheaded by guillotine on January 21st, 1793 on the Place de la Revolution, now called Place de la Concorde.
No. His alleged crimes were not worthy of such a punisment and the legal system was a mockery.
yes he did
Because his Grandpa died. Louis (originally Louis-Auguste) should not in the normal course have become King; he had an elder brother, who died at the age of ten. When his father, heir to the throne also died, Louis became next in line. One consequence of this was that he had not been brought up to be a King from his earliest years, which helps to explain why he was not very good at being King when the moment came.Incidentally, he wasn't MADE King. Hereditary monarchy doesn't work like that, it's simply automatic. If you're next in line, you're it.
He may have been responsible for it, but he did not start it.
King ed the confessor
He should not have been king because he was already king of Norway.
He would have been killed
It has been named after King Louis XV.
Yes, he was, although he had no reigning power. The last real King of France had been Louis XVI who was killed in 1793. Since then, the French made it very clear they did not want one person with absolute power. The Kings after Louis XVI were therefore only King in name. The old regime had died with Louis XVI.
He was not killed by a King, he died on the island of St.Helena (where he had been exiled), of stomach cancer.
French hasn't been a monarchy since 1793 when the French killed their last King, Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette. France is a republic and therefore has a president. His name is Nicolas Sarkozy.
The French monarch in 1789 was King Louis XVI. He became King of France in 1774.
Officially, Louis XVI was the last real King of France of the old regime. He was the last King of France with actual reigning power. After him, Napoleon Bonaparte crowned himself emperor of France, so then France was an empire. After Napoleon, the monarchy in France was restored, and Louis XVIII (a.k.a. Comte de Provence, the bother of Louis XVI) became King of France, but he had no reigning power, being only a King in name since the old regime had been abolished in 1792. After him, his brother became King, King Charles X (a.k.a. Comte de Artois, another brother of Louis XVI). After him, Louis Philippe (the cousin of King Charles X) became King. After them, France turned into a Republic and had presidents.
