I have never heard of having to submit tax returns or year end tax information to a landlord for possible tenant selection. But, the landlord has the right to use the same tenant selection criteria on voucher holders that they do on unassisted tenants, except, in some states, income criteria. Many landlords use income criteria for selection of tenant on the basis of the tenant making a total monthly income at least three times the amount of rent. For voucher holders, the landlord may not use this type criteria for obvious reasons. Your local housing authority should be able to give you an answer to this question.

Can a landlord rent to an illegal alien in new york?

Yes. Housing law has nothing to do with immigration law, and a landlord has no obligation to investigate a prospective tenant's citizenship status. Furthermore, federal housing law prohibits discrimination based on race or ethnicity. The landlord who refuses to rent to someone because of a question of citizenship is probably basing his concern on ethnicity. Does the landlord ask every prospective tenant, or just those who look "foreign."

Is a landlord required to provide housing in a flood?

Does a landlord of section 8 have the rite to see A checking acct information for the last 6 mos is there a federal law stating that?

No. The housing authority might, but not the landlord. Of course, in some cases, the housing authority is the landlord.

When does the landlord have to turn on the heat in an elderly housing community?

The specific requirements for when the landlord must provide heat in an elderly housing community may vary by jurisdiction. In general, landlords are typically required to provide heat during certain months, usually from October to May, to ensure the habitability of the property and the well-being of the elderly residents. It's recommended to review the local housing laws and regulations for more precise information.

Where can you find Landlord tenant Laws for Ohio?

Landlord tenant laws can cover quite a bit of area. What specifically are you seeking? Are you curious about this from the standpoint of a landlord/prospective landlord or a tenant? If you want a good general overview checklist a good site can be found at http://www.tenant.net/Other_Areas/Ohio/landlord.html Another good resource (from the landlord side of the table) is the fair housing act series at www.findthatqualitytenant.com. What identification can a potential landlord legally ask of a potential tenant who is suspected of being illegal?

A landlord can certainly ask for ID to determine who he is dealing with. However, the person's citizenship or immigration status should never be the concern of a landlord. No landlord has any obligation (or authority) to deal with immigration issues. Furthermore, rejecting a prospective tenant based on immigration questions is surely a violation of the Federal Fair Housing Act, being illegal discrimination based in ethnicity.

What is a section 8 landlord?

There is no such thing as a Section 8 Landlord. There are either public housing developments and apartments, or there are landlords who are willing to participate in the Housing Choice Voucher Program (I.e., accept section 8 vouchers).

Is landlord required to paint in California before new tenant?

No. The premises should be "habitable". If you believe it is so bad that it is not fit to live in, contact your local housing office. Some cities have an arbitration process where a person will come out and make a decision. Not sure, but I expect this decision is binding on the landlord.
