Horses are sensitive to objects that move to fast or things that are new to them. If you move the flashlight around like a wildman(woman) the horse will get spooked. If the horse gets scared just looking at the flashlight, lay them around his stall or where ever you can put it where they'll see it. This will get the horse use to the object. It's mostly about trust. Horses shouldn't be frightened of odd objects (to them, at least) but it isn't serious. Being afraid of flashlights isn't crucial for the horse to get over, it is perfectly fine, unless every ball of light frightens it.
For the same reason you should be they can kill or injure you.
It means you are scared of horses.
No you shouldn't. If you are scared then the horse can sense it and might get more tense. Just relax and be calm and enjoy the ride! :)
In the wild a horse has two options when it is scared. Fight of Flee. Most horses choose to flee. Domestic horses do the same. However if the horse trusts you it should follow you past the scary object or person.
