If he is smart but bossy, he evidently feels like he is better than you and that you should do what he tells you. In my opinion, you should move on to someone who is more mature and non-manipulative before he becomes angry and abusive.
Try to compromise first, and if he refuses, then yes.
Ask yourself if you want to go another year or two with him being smart but bossy. Sounds like you don't. Have a sit down talk with him and explain to him EXACTLY how you feel about him being bossy. He may not even be aware of it. If he blows you off or it doesn't seem to help then leave. You want to be happy MOST of the time with him. There is always give and take in a relationship but the biggest thing is YOU have to be happy with it.
