If you can afford a PS3 you should purchase it over the PS2. If you already have an internet connection the PS3 has ever more advantages that are not available with the PS2. If you are going to use an HDTV for the Console the PS3 is a better choice and also if you want a HDTV then when you purchase a PS3 it will work with both systems. You should only purchase the PS2 if yours is broken and you have a number of games and then most purchasers should look at the many PS2s being sold as a set combined with games and accessories at greatly reduced prices.
