No cardio before weight lifting is a bad idea. The reason for that is you want to do the hardest part and the most taxing part of training first. If you do cardio before weight lifting you are going to deplete your muscle glycogen as well as your energy and come to lifting already fatigued. Versus training when you're fresh and then finishing with cardio.

Cardio or weight training firstWell, weight training is more sedentary than cardio heart-rate wise, so weight training first might be a more gradual transition than cardio to weights. Of course, if you do cardio first, then there would be no transition between the two.

I would do weight training and cardio on an alternating schedule. For example, do some type of cardio for 45-60 minutes on one day (brisk walk if you can do nothing else) and then on the next day lift weights. Repeat. That will give your body the recommended 48 hours in-between a specified workout. If you are trying to build muscle, eat plenty of quality protein. The healthier your diet is the better. Strive to make at least half, if not more, of what you drink plain fresh water.

Some people go totally gung-ho for 6 days of the week, making everything healthy and only drinking water, but on the seventh day, they eat whatever food they want to get their junk food fix. Eating and drinking healthy 24/7 is obviously the healthiest way to go, but most of us find it hard to abandon the foods we love.

There are many documented studies which show that aerobic activity before weight training decreases strength for that weight training session. I would do aerobics after weights. It all depends on what you focus is, weights or aerobics.

Also try going for a walk/run first thing in the morning, before breakfast as your glycogen stores should be empty so you will burn more fat than if you do cardio any other time of the day.
