If you have to choose between the two get the PS2. The original Xbox is far inferior to the PS2. There is also a huge market of new and used games at greatly reduced prices for the PS2. The Xbox 360 may be a better console than the PS2, but it will cost much more to use. I would recommend the PS3 over the Xbox 360 but the question was about the earlier models. You will find that the market is flooded with PS2 systems and they sell at greatly reduced total system package prices.
