yes, highly recommended! Thailand has a great culture and very warm, welcoming people. It is safe, but there can be pickpockets in Bangkok. that's about the worst it gets usually.
may I recommend some sights in Thailand: Wat Para Kheo and Wat Pho, in addition to other temples. be sure to wear respectful clothes (no short-shorts or tank tops for women) when visiting a temple in Thailand.
also, it's nice to dip a foot into Laos and relatively easy to cross into Vientiane, the capital. do not go into Burma (Myanmar) at this time, and probably a good idea not to go to any Thai-Burma border towns, either. (Mae Sot, Mae Sariang, etc.)
beaches are nice, but it's good to see other parts, too, that aren't already run-down by tourists.
