That depnds on what you mean by "too high". Your chlorine shouldn't be higher than a regular shock, about 10-12ppm, unless you have a really bad green algae bloom that required chlorine up to 25ppm.
Even at 15-20ppm for chlorine your pool pump should be fine.

No you do not.The only chlorine you will use in a salt system is a shock.But even then you should use only a NON-Chlorine shock.And by the way Chlorine in your skimmer is a very bad Idea, The high concentration of chlorine going straight to your equipment (pump,heater,filter)will shorten it's life considerably. So long as the pump isn't too high compared to the water it doesn't mater a great deal, however if the pump needs to push water a long way along or up or down you may need a high head pump.
