These 2 fluids are totally different. Mercon is bascially Dexron. Mercon V is a synthetic. Yor car more than likely uses Mercon V, but I am not 100% sure. Look in your owner's manul or call your local Ford dealer. The type fluid you use is critical and you want to be 100% correct.

You want to use MERCON V transmission fluid. Do not use MERCON/DEXRON III as this older version is not formulated to operate correctly in your transmission. The bottle must clearly specify MERCON V which has superceded the older MERCON/DEXRON III formulation.
