Can you use type F fluid in 2001 Ford Taurus?

No. The Transaxle in a 1988-2006 Ford Taurus must use MERCON V. Both the AX4N and AX4S transaxle can ONLY use MERCON V. The Power Steering system also utilizes the MERCON V Fluid. The Power Steering system can ONLY use MERCON V.

MERCON V is the latest MERCON Specification. All MERCON Fluids have been discontinued and replaced with the new MERCON V standard.

IMPORTANT: Systems requiring MERCON V ARE NOTbackwards compatible with MERCON fluid. Do NOT use MERCON fluid in a system designed for use with MERCON V Fluid.

However, Systems requiring MERCON fluid, can use MERCON V fluid. Ford issued a TSB stating that MERCON V supersedes(and surpasses) all MERCON requirements.
