Should the galvanized pipes in your home be rusting after 19 years?

Depends on the water quality and what type of galvanized piping was used

What is more reactive steel galvanized steel or stainless steel?

It depends on the environments. If the two materials will be in contact with water or high humidity then you can have some corrosion on the galvanized steel.Stainless steel and galvanized steel can corrode. However, galvanized steel will corrode at a higher rate. Stainless steel is more corrosion resistant than galvanized steel, but in some circumstances it will also corrode.

What size outboard motor should a 14 foot boat have?

Depends if it fiberglass or Aluminium. For Fiberglass you would be looking at around 50hp-60hp and and Aluminium would be between 30hp and 40hp.

Why is aluminium good in cooking equipment?

Aluminum is both an excellent heat conductor and inexpensive. However it should never be allowed to come into contact with acidic foods.

How can you prevent galvanic corrosion between 304 stainless steel piping and galvanized saddle tap fittings?

Completely isolate the electrical circuit - so use some insulation such as PVC to ensure the metals are not in contact - but the above situation should not be allowed in the first place - very poor design indeed.

Can you do brass to galvanized conduit connection?

Can you do it - yes. SHOULD you do it - NO. Because brass and galvanized conduit have different electrochemical potentials (go talk to a chemistry teacher if you need an explanation of electrochemical potential) if you place them in direct contact with each other, you will set up a galvanic differential and promote corrosion. If you must connect brass and galvanized conduit, you should use a connector between the two that will isolate them electrically from each other. In essence, you are "insulating" them from each other so that you don't get an electric current between them to promote corrosion. There are special fittings, I believe they are referred to as "dielectric fittings" that are designed to provide this insulation and avoid the problem of galvanic corrosion. The more corrosive the liquid you have in the pipes, the more important it is to use these special fittings. Hard or salty water can particularly problematic.

When replacing old galvanized pipe with copper should all the runs be the same?

If you sand the galvanized coating off the steel could you etch it in mordant?

If you sand the galvanized coating off the steel, it should be able to be etched in mordant. The galvanizing is there to protect the metal from chemical interaction.

Will galvanized steel react in contact with copper or brass?

[Old Answer]No they won't ...[/Old Answer] This answer is technically wrong depending on how pedantic you want to be... ALL Metals that are dissimilar will react with each other provided certain conditions are met, i.e Moisture is Present. It is not IF they will react that is important it is the RATE of reaction. For more detailed information look up a Galvanic Reaction Chart/Table. For the purposes of this particular question, Aluminium/Aluminum and Steel are dissimilar and WILL react provided Moisture is present, but they are not too far apart on the Galvanic Reaction Chart so the RATE will be very slow.
