No you should not; use the jaw thrust method to open the airway.
One way is to use the head tilt chin lift maneuver but if the person has a risk of a spinal injury then you should use the jaw thrust maneuver.
head-tilt/chin-lift maneuver
Use the head tilt chin lift
Use the head tilt chin lift
Head tilt Chin Lift Maneuver Unless you suspect a Head Neck Injury then do Jaw Thrust Maneuver.
this should only be used if spinal injury is suspected, if not heat tilt chin lift or recovery position should be used
when you suspect that there maybe a possible head/neck injury, just to the jaw thrust, not the head-tilt-chin-lift thing. if ever there's a neck injury, it's better prioritize your patient's airway first rather than the neck injury.
Use the head tilt chin lift
Head tilt chin lift or Jaw Thrust - just like they taught you in first aid class. If you haven't taken a class, do so. If the above manuvers fail to clear the airway, advanced measures need to be taken by EMT's or Paramedics.
Open the airway with a head-tilt-chin-lift or a jaw thrust if there is a suspected spinal injury. Then look, listen, and feel for breathing/respirations.
As you administer each rescue breath look at their chest as you breathe in. You should see the chest rise if properly done. Remember to do a head-tilt-chin-lift if you do not suspect a head, neck or spinal injury and firmly pinch the nose closed. Breathe in only enough air to make the chest start to rise. If you breathe in too much it can cause air to go into the stomach resulting in vomiting.
YES! If the person is unconscious then elevate the head, supporting the neck with 2 fingers under the chin and tilt back. Give 3 rescue breaths and watch for any signs of life!!
