There can be many different side effects that a 17 year old may experience when taking Strattera. Some of these are depression, suicidal thoughts, stomach upset, mood swings, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

What are the side effects after going off of Strattera?

My 11 year old daughter had been taking Strattera for a little more than 3 years. About 5 weeks ago she decided on her own, without discussing it with her father and I, to stop cold turkey taking her meds. She was taking 60mg of Strattera and a melatonin every night before bed. She was taking it at night because of the stomach aches. they were just to much to handle during the morning at school. After a few weeks of not taking the meds she confided in my Mother that she was not taking the Strattera anymore. I couldn't really tell any major differences. The only big difference was her insatiable appetite In the about 5 or 6 weeks she has been off the Strattera(taking it for ADHD) she has gained 10lbs. She says she is now sleeping through the night. Falling asleep quite easily too. It used to take her more than an hour even with the Melatonin.

Is it safe for a 9 year old to take 25 mg of Strattera if his heart rate is 118 BPM?

I would not put a 9 year old onto that high of a dose with his heart rate at that, because Strattera has side effects of increased heart rate, I think for a 9 year old you should try 5mg to start on, and then slowly ween up if needed.

How long do Strattera side effects last?

I have been on Strattera for 5 months and I still have not gotten back to normal sexually. i have been on strattera for 8 months and i still have no sexual desire that i used to have. it sucks! I'm a 19 female in college, this is not okay but i need the strattera. I wouldn't know anything about the side effects of Strattera, but I would recommend to everyone out here taking it that adderall is a much better med for ADD. Even though it has slight sexual side effect while it's in your system, it wears off almost immediatly after it clears your system. I would recommend that to everyone out there having trouble with Strattera, but need a med for their ADD. I've only been taking Strattera about 4 days now and have noticed many of the same side effects mentioned on here - NO sex-drive, erectile problems, and urinary/ejaculatory problems. These are all confirmed by Lilly, the company that makes Strattera, in this document: http://pi.lilly.com/us/strattera-pi.pdf I hope this helps answer some questions. I'm going back to Cylert. >:-( I've been taking Strattera for about 3 months. I have encountered some/minimal sexual side effects. I've ejaculated without the sensation of ejaculation. When I poop it stimulates my prostate and at that time I ejaculate. It is small but it is seminal fluid none the less. I have never read this before in a post. I thought it should be included in at least one of them. I have been on Straterra since March of 2002...shortly after it came out. I have had problems with erections being soft or fading away, no ejaculations, leakage, sore tecticles... This has not lessened at all over time, in fact it has gotten worse. I have lost the drive for sex and the ability too. The problem has become intrusive in my life. I am a 45 year old male and on 80 Mg. per day. I take the medication in the morning, but have not noticed any decrease in the side effects as the day goes on. Same thing we me. Libido? Zero. Not good. I feel like what an 80 year old must feel like (well i imagine anyway). I'm actually trying to figure out what other ADD meds are available that don't have the same side effects.

When I was at the doctor he told me that I have anxiety and ADHD and he sead that I must go on Strattera it worked but it was to expensive to go on it for a year can Strattera be given as chronic?

Sure, most drugs can be prescribed for extended periods of time. Certainly antidepressants (Strattera is a failed antidepressant) are prescribed as such. No studies have examined the long-term effects of Strattera, and therefore it is not recommended that Strattera be used in the long-term. In fact, the Strattera drug information specifically states,"Strattera is not for long-term use." Be careful with drugs like Strattera (antidepressants in general): their specific effects on the brain and their long-term effects are not well-known. These drugs can permanently alter your brain chemistry and cause a variety of secondary effects (for which you'll be prescribed more medications). Of course, this is just my opinion, and it is based on anecdotal evidence. Be cautious.

What is best for 7 year old with add Ritalin or Strattera?

Both Ritalin (methylphenidate) and Strattera (atomoxetine) can be effective for treating ADHD in children, but they work differently. Ritalin is a stimulant and often provides quick relief of symptoms, while Strattera is a non-stimulant that may take longer to show effects. The best choice depends on the child's specific needs, potential side effects, and how they respond to each medication. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized recommendations.

Can your 13 year old daughter take Strattera and lithium?

A child who is on lithium needs to be monitored carefully before starting Strattera. This drug can trigger depression and my not be appropriate for someone who is taking a medication such as lithium.

Is stomach discomfort and nausea a common side effect of taking Strattera with milk?

My son was on Strattera for quite some time and he has stomach discomfort and nausea the whole time. It didn't matter if he took it with or without milk his stomach still got upset. It also caused him to cry a lot and be VERY emotional. We switch him to Concerta and the side effects seem to be very minimal. (he's been on it for over a year now) If the symptoms continue I would consider having your doctor change the medication!! Hope that was some help!!

Is 60mg of Strattera a lot to start of with?

Yes, that is a serious amount to be taking to start with. -40- is a lot to start with. I've been taking Strattera for a year now, and I'm up to 60mg, and my body still has trouble handling it. It makes me sick, and dizzy, even if I eat before, with, and after it.

Is Strattera advisable even if you are a recovering alcoholic and bulimic?

I am both a recovering alcoholic and bulimic. I have absolutely no appetite on strattera, so it should not trigger any bulimic behavior. I have just over a year sober and have had no desire to drink since taking the medication. So for me, strattera has not had any negative effect on either affliction. Good luck!

What are Strattera side effects for children?

Wow, give Strattera a chance. My son also had really bad headaches, but after a while, maybe a week or so, he got over the headaches. I always gave it to him right before bed because I had also heard that it can cause nausea. Also, it is very important that you give Strattera the FULL amount of time to work. If you want an instant cure to ADD, this is NOT the drug. It takes 2 - 4 weeks to even start to show results. - I don't know what your doctor told you, but you shouldn't be giving it to him at night. Not only can it cause trouble sleeping, but it is a 12-hour time release medication so you are wasting about 8 hours of the effective time of the medication by making him try to sleep right after taking it. my son is 10 years old and has been on strattera for only three days he has for the last 2 days, complained of severe headaches i have searched the web for information on headaches as a possible side effect for this drug to no avail. I also would like any info on this subject http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/strattera_ad.htm This is the web page I found that shows a trial study of Strattera and it shows that 27% of those in the trial experienced headache. I started researching this because my daughter who has a history of migraine headaches started complaining more frequently of more severe headaches after she started the strattera. I noticed about 3 to 4 hrs after she takes the medicine the headache kicks in, 6 out of 7 days a week. She has been on the Strattera 3 weeks now. I hope this side effect will subside. My son is 12. He has been on Straterra for 1 year. He has had a headache almost everyday since he started taking it. It has worked wonders though and he does not wan to stop taking it. Yes, my son has been on Strattera for 4 months now, he is taking 40mg now. His headaches appeared soon thereafter. He is 12 and complains of top center pain on a daily basis. We thought they were due to sinus infection but after antibiotic treatment he is still getting the same pain in the same spot, an uncommon place for sinus pain. His concentration has greatly improved though, how much longer will he resist, I do not know. I frequently get headaches while on 40 mg once daily Strattera. I'm 16 years old and have been taking Strattera for nearly 2 weeks now. After upping my dosage from 25mg to 40 mg, the tension headaches at the top center got worse, but the increased focus and concentration help so much that the benefits outweigh the detracting side effects. If necessary, I balance out the Strattera with Tylenol or Excedrin, and that seems to fix the problem.

You have been taking methotrexate for a year when will the side effects go?

They don't necessarily and you may get more as time goes by. At least that is what has been the case with me over the last 3 years.
