To allow children the freedom to assess risk for themselves (with guidance) allows them to form a sense of danger. Children who understand danger for themselves can make good choices and also lead by example. We do this by talking to the child using age appropriate language. For example: A two year old is learning about road safety and whilst out, we come to a road holding hands. The child tries to wriggle out of my hand and I explain that there are cars coming and they are coming fast so we need to hold hands to be safe. I then ask the child to look for cars on the road. At this stage the child can see cars coming and going and will point them out. I would praise the child for good seeing and talk to the child the whole time about looking and listening before crossing with care. The child has learned it is important to hold hands at the road and also to look for cars before crossing. This is something I can ask the child to do each time adding little extra bits every time to reinforce. I can also stand at the road and say nothing and observe the child doing it independently. I can also ask the child what we do at the road side. A five year old is playing outside and is playing on a trike. He is going rather too fast and I ask him what accidents might happen due to the speed in which he is playing. He thinks about it and comes up with some good examples suck as, hitting someone and hurting them. Going so fast that he comes off and hurts his head, and crashing into another toy and breaking it. Lots of praise is given for being clever and then I ask what he is going to do now he has thought about it. He smiles and says he will play more slowly and take more care. I keep an eye on him and I se that he does indeed take more care playing. At another time, the same child talks to another child in my care who is going too fast and repeats the conversation we had as if he were me.

Is Advair an antihistamine?

No. It contains two drugs, one of which reduces inflammation, and the other opens up the airways in the lungs. It's for treating asthma. Antihistamines do reduce inflammation caused by allergies but the inflammation caused by asthma isn't connected with allergies, so Advair cannot be used instead of antihistamines. Some patients have asthma and allergies, but each condition should be treated with the appropriate medication.
