I have never heard of a dog getting cancer if you do not spay them. I raised pure bred collies and did not spay the females as we wanted to breed them. None of my females ever got cancer

When should you have your 4 month old female puppy neutered?

You can have your puppy spayed at any time now - most veterinarians in the United States will perform the surgery on a dog at least 4 months old. You want to get this done relatively soon, however, so you get the maximum protection against mammary cancer by preventing her first heat cycle (usually happens around 6 months of age).

Should your second puppy be male or female?

It doesn't matter that much, it just depends on personal preference, whether or not they get along with each other and with other pets in the family, and if they are neutered/spayed. If they aren't neutered or spayed, you should be sure to get the same gender puppy if you do not want them to breed.

Boy or girl puppy?

How great a pet a puppy will grow up to be isn't based on it's gender, it's based on how well you train and socialize it. Unless you plan on participating in dog shows, your puppy should be spayed or neutered before it's 6 months old. Female dogs are healthier and live longer if spayed before the onset of their first heat cycle. Male dogs are less likely to want to roam or fight with other dogs if neutered.

How many weeks does a puppy need to be to get spayed?

In most cases, a veterinarian is trained to wait until the puppy is four months (16 weeks) old to schedule a spay/neuter surgery. However, new research and techniques show you can spay a puppy as young as 8 weeks with very low complication rates provided the puppy is at least 5 pounds in weight at the time of surgery.

Its it good to use puppy training pads while you puppy is recovering from being spayed?

It depends on the dog. If the weather is bad or if you can't be home with it Puppy Training pads can work well.

My puppy got spayed then a few days later I found out intestines were intertwined is it a act of god or did something happen during the spayed surgery?

the spayed surgery is unlikely to have affected his intestines. It's probably the stomach contracting on itself (did you feed it?) 177
