Yes. From 1879 until January 31st 1936 Jehovah's Witnesses believed Jesus died on a cross.

It was after the January 1936 'Riches' book was published by the Watchtower Society that the belief changed to a tree or an upright stake.

See the quote below from the 1975 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses page 148,

yb75 pp. 148-149 Part 2-United States of America ***

" Some three years thereafter, beginning with its issue of October 15, 1931, The Watchtower no longer bore the cross and crown symbol on its cover.

A few years later Jehovah's people first learned that Jesus Christ did not die on a T-shaped cross. On January 31, 1936, Brother Rutherford released to the Brooklyn Bethel family the new book Riches.

Scripturally, it said, in part, on page 27: "Jesus was crucified, not on a cross of wood, such as is exhibited in many images and pictures, and which images are made and exhibited by men; Jesus was crucified by nailing his body to a tree."

What do Jehovahs witnesses believe about having friends?

Well, Jehovah's witnesses try and follow the early Christians (Jesus, and his followers) as close as possible. Jesus has friends and even God (Jehovah) had made friends with people on earth, God made friends with Abraham. There are MANY examples in the bible of people having friends.... Why would Jehovah's witnesses not have friends? Jehovah's witnesses enjoy getting together with friends, and going out together, they consider their friends, as if they were family. OF COURSE they do! There is NO where in the bible that say's 'Thou shalt not have friends'.

Have the jehovahs witnesses always believed that jesus died on a stake as opposed to a cross?

No, according to the publication "Jehovah's Witnesses Porclaimers of God's kingdom" pub. 1993 p. 200:"For years, Bible Students wore a cross and crown as a badge of identification, and this symbol was on the front cover of the "Watch Tower" from 1891 to 1931. But in 1928 it was emphasized that not a decorative symbol but one's activity as a witness showed he was a Christian. In 1936 it was pointed out that the evidence indicates that Christ died on a stake, not a two-beamed cross."

Do jehovahs witness celberate holdiays?

Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate most national and religious holidays. However, they annually observe the occasion of Jesus' death, which they call the "Memorial Occasion".
