Communism (classless stateless society) will have to be global, so there can be no such thing as a Communist country. Under capitalism, some countries have very limited forms of democracy, but cannot have the fully democratic society that Communism will be.

Communism is a political philosophy that defines the role of the state in distributing wealth.

Democracy is a political philosophy that defines the role of individuals in formulating the government and creating laws.

States can be democratic but not communist, democratic and communist, neither democratic nor communist or communist but not democratic.

If you wish to compare societies that exist now, or at some previous point in history you will need to tell us which ones you want to compare.

My guess is you will want to compare past failed communist states with a fictional and democratic America of your dreams.
