This ia WAY too broad a question. Customs vary from region to region throughtout the sates. Even the way we speak varies so much , some people from places like Boston, MA , Knoxville KY , or Trenton NJ can all be in the same room, all speaking English and barely understand each other. Some of us like NASCAR and lawn mower races, while others want to go to the Ballet and a good museum. And it would help to know where you are coming from, where you will spending most of your time , and what your expectations are.
We are so diverse here, you will be shocked, disgusted ,delighted and enchanted, maybe all in the same day. Just be able to say Hello and Good-bye, Please and Thank You, introduce yourself , be polite, especially to ladies, and tolerant of children . And keep one of those little translator gadgets handy, athough you will no doubt hear things that will lose meaning in the translation. Mostly , we are a pretty friendly bunch, and do our best to accommodate foreign visitors. And smiles are Universal.
