All I know about it is that it was minted in connection with the American Revolution Bicentennial and was presented to a some South Carolinians by then governor John West in 1974. On the back is the Exchange Building in Charleston. It is where SC officially became a state.

Before becoming a state, South Carolina was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes. The first European settlement was established by the Spanish in 1526. Subsequent rulers included the English during the Colonial period and the British during the American Revolution.
He was an African American man that farmed in South Carolina. He was born in 1843 and is listed in the census. The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture has a web page with information on him.
