The first representatives of the International Bible Students (as Jehovah's Witnesses were know as at the time) were sent to the continent of Africa in 1910 and a concerted effort was made in the 1920's by Jehovah's Witnesses to take their message to the African people. By the end of the second world war Jehovah's Witnesses were active in 14 African countries the number increasing to 19 by 1975.

There are presently hundreds of thousands of African Jehovah's Witnesses in African countries most notably Congo, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia.
