Normally one finds the most obvious sign is a rougher than normal idle. I have a 2000 Mustang and found that occasionally the idle was rougher than normal and sometimes the car seemed to have less power. Again, this was occasionally and became worse and worse over time. I replaced the EGR and cleaned out the intake manifold passage to correct the problem.
on a 98 ford taurus what are the symptoms of a bad hydralic valve lifter
PVC valve is bad
My Aurora had a slight hesitation or rpm surge at about 1500 rpm. disconnecting the electrical connector from the EGR valve and the problem went away.
A bad EGR valve in a 2000 Saturn can have several symptoms. The EGR valve can cause misfires, the valve can cause vacuum leak style problems. There could also be an engine knock.
it bangs when you put it in gear
Check engine lit goes on.
Yes.
valve should rattle when shook, and when engine is started it should have a good suction.
No.
An engine with a bad intake valve is likely to backfire frequently. This can easily destroy a carbuerator or throttle body. The same symptoms can be caused by a poorly adjusted rocker arm or poorly timed cam and distributor.
I also have a 2002 Mustang GT with a bad PCV valve. It made a ticking noise while the motor was running then ticked for 3-4 seconds after it was turned off. A way to test if it is a bad PCV valve is to remove it and see if the noise stops. It is in the right head just under the intake hose. Lift it out and if the noise stops there is your problem. It's a five dollar fix.
engine cranks over but will not start.
