It is usually mistaken to be of Aztec origin, but it is not the case: the Aztecs flourished as an independent civilization in 1325 AD, almost 1400 years after Teotihuacan was built.

It was home to 200,000 people during the 5th to 6th centuries - much earlier than Aztecs, who founded their capital 800 years later.
