On 1 March 1861. Apparently there is a debate of sorts on the exact date of secession by Texas from the United States. The dates vary and they are close enough that it truly does not matter. Here are a few bits of information. Supposedly one date is February 1 1861. Another source says that on Feb. 23, 1861 Texas voters voted to secede. Another organization uses March 2nd as the date. And yet another uses March 5, 1861.
The last state to secede from the Union was Texas. On February 1, 1861, Texas officially declared its secession from the United States, joining the Confederate States of America. However, after the end of the Civil War, Texas was readmitted to the Union on March 30, 1870.
In theory, any state can secede from the Union. However the possibility of Texas ever leaving the United States is not very likely. It's NOT just a theory in regards to Texas. It was actually included in our agreement to join the U.S. We're the only state that can choose to leave the Union without repercussion (i.e. military entanglements).
