Federalists favored the ratification of the Constitution because they believed that a strong central government was needed. The federalists were generally wealthy individuals, that were opposed to anarchy.

The Federalists were well organized and in many states they often controlled the elections of ratifying conventions with their power and influence. Their opponents, the Antifederalists, were generally farmers, debtors, and other lower class people who were loyal to their state governments.
Generally speaking they were referred to as anti-federalists.

The Federalists were the North. The Confederates were the South. Federalists were against slavery and the Confederates were for slavery. Confederates is against the federalists, or opposite the federalists. CONfederalists.
