Ultimately, it limits every bodies power. It restricts the Judicial branch from cruel and unusual punishment among other things. It restricts the legislative branch from taking land from private owners among other things. It restricts the executive branch from having too much power over the other branches. When the federalists were ratifying the constitution, the opposing party thought that it might create a government similar to that of Britain's, so they created a Bill of Rights a compromise. The bill of rights give the people power.
