The ac in your 1988 xj6 not coming on at all what do you check?

Check the fuse. If it is good, then find a good A/C shop and take it in for repair. Not a DIY job. I have the same vehicle. Does the compressor come on when you switch the ac on? You have to have the hood open to hear it. The ac won't come on if the ac coolant is low. There is a sight glass on the condeser (passanger side near the radiator). If it's black, then your low on coolant. You can use Freeze 12, which is better, or R-134a. Be sure to snug up the lines that you can reach before adding coolant.
