The chemical properties of matter are mainly determined by the electrons in the outermost orbital shell. The exceptions to this occur in e.g. the Lanthanides and the Actinides, where as a group, the outermost shell of each is equally filled, and it is the number of electrons in the next innermost shell that now comes into play. Hence their very similar chemistry.

Similar considerations apply to both the columns and the rows of the Periodic Table, where those the elements share somewhat similar properties.

Mendeleev, by arranging a set of cards, each representing one element and its properties, was able to arrange the cards to form his periodic table, and thus predict where new elements could be found. His predictions also pointed to where elements had been incorrectly placed.

Chemical energy comes from the movement of atoms and molecules in matter. Chemical energy comes from the movement of atoms and molecules in matter.

Why is water a chemical and how?

Water is a compound because 2 elements are chemically bonded together within each molecule of water there are 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. Because this compound is the same, same properties, no matter where it comes from or how you get it, it is said to be a chemical. Its chemical properties such as how it reacts to other substances are always the same for pure water.

Matter can be created during a chemical reaction?

No new matter is formed after a chemical reaction. In a chemical reaction, the atoms that make up the reactants rearrange to form products with different properties from the reactants. The matter that goes into a chemical reaction is the same matter that comes out, just rearranged. That's why chemical equations must be balanced to show the same numbers of atoms of each element on both sides of the equation.

What comes out of chemical reactions?

4 useful chemical reactions are: fermentation, smelting combustion and electrolysis

Properties seen when one substance changes to another are known as?

there are two types of change. the first one is the physical change. the form or appearance of the substance is change but the chemical properties of the substance is not changed. example, water evaporates into the air, that is a physical change because from liquid, water changes into gas but it then comes back to water as rain. the other one is chemical change wherein the chemical properties of the substance is changed. example is burning of wood. wood is burned and turned into charcoal. the chemical properties of wood is different from the chemical properties of charcoal and charcoal is another substance.

What is energy that comes from bonds within matter called?

It's called chemical energy, and it explains why some chemical reactions get hot and others get cold. The chemical energy locked up in gasoline is what allows your car to burn it and get enough power to move thousands of pounds of mass down the road. So, chemical energy is a force to be reckoned with!

What is a form of energy that comes from chemical bonds?

The form of energy that comes from chemical bonds is known as chemical energy. Chemical energy is considered potential energy, as it requires a transformation to occur.

List three charactoristics properties of matter?

Matter are in four states. They are solid, liquid, gas and ionic ie plasma. In case of solid, the properties are many. Conductive both heat and electricity, elastic property. In case of liquid and gas, both named as fluid as both are capable of flowing, the following properties are common. Diffusion, viscosity. In case of liquid there comes surface tension, osmosis, the properties to be mentioned.

What do the unusual properties of water mostly comes from?

Mostly from the fact that there is strong hydrogen bonding between the molecules. This, for instance, gives water much higher melting and boiling points than we'd otherwise expect for such small molecules.

The volume of matter comes mostly from its?

Both, while electrons make up the most of the shell that counts as volume for matter electrons still require protons to keep them in stable orbit. But in short yes it is the electrons. Alex PH

What is the meaning of the word atom?

The smallest component of an element having the chemical properties of the elementatom comes from the word atomos ( a= not/ tomos= devisible)it was called this because it was belived that all matter was made from individual descrete particles so not visible.MIT lecture on the origin of the atom,A direct answer for this..The word 'atom' means 'uncuttable' or 'smallest indivisible particle of matter
