A proximity contact is one component of a proximity switch. These types of switches are used in positions where limit switches would not have enough room to operate. There is an internal circuit in the head of the proximity switch that can sense the presence of a metallic object. When sensing a metallic object the internal circuity energizes a relay that closes the proximity's contacts. The contacts are in the C class form which consists of a common and one normally open and one normally closed contact.
