Medically it is called an inevitable abortion as abortion is the term used for any cessation of pregnancy before the baby is viable (able to live on its own). However most people would say that this is a miscarriage and if the baby is not 'miscarried' in a few days the woman would have to have a D & C to remove it as it can cause severe and even fatal infections.
