Sorry- urban legend. The FIRST bombing of Berlin took place on 25 Aug 1940, using 81 aircraft. The bombing that damaged the zoo (and, unfortunately, the elephant) was a later bombing raid, night of 22 Nov, 1943, performed by 444 aircraft. This raid produced massive damage and multiple deaths. See the link below.
The only elephant in the Berlin zoo.
what was western allies response to the berlin blockade
1. The very first bomb dropped by the Allies on Berlin in World War II killed the only elephant in the Berlin Zoo. 2. Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. "Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this practice.
The Berlin Blockade was supposed to cause the allies to give up western Berlin to the Soviet forces, but instead the allies constantly airlifted supplies past the blockade until it was lifted.
After WWII? The Berlin Airlift dropped food and other supplies on East Berlin which was at the time controlled by the Soviet Union. The Marshall Plan also helped to rebuild Europe's economy.
No. Paris first and Berlin was last.
Bats (the Americans trialed using them as homing bombs), pigeons, (as messengers,) there are stories of dogs saving people during world war 2. There were many mascots during WW2, ranging from dogs and cats, to rams and even lions (Von Werra's pet, of Jagdgeschwader 3). The first bomb dropped on Berlin hit the elephant enclosure of Berlin Zoo, killing the elephant. Hitler had a pet German Shepard called Blondi. That enough?

Russia had been allocated the area around Berlin at the allies Yalta conference - the western allies did not need to advance or fight into territory which they would then have to move out of again. Although Germany would only be beaten by the taking of Berlin, the western allies could have got there before the Russians - Politics!
Well technically it fell to the allies but the Russians were the army that actually took Berlin.
