How the US and the Soviet Union became involved in the Cold War after World War 2.?

The Cold War was a term used by Churchill in a speech. It was NOT an actual war, but a standoff between the western democratic nations and the Soviet communist government. It began after WW2 when the Soviets reached Berlin first and then the Western allies arrived. They decided to divide up Berlin into 4 sectors. The allies had 3 of the 4 and Russian forces were given one. The sectors then became West Germany and East Germany with the Brandenburg gate the checkpoint. The Soviets didn't like the idea of people leaving East Germany for the west so they built the Berlin Wall. It had guard towers, barb wire, a no man's land, and people living near the wall were moved. People did anything they could to escape the Russian communist state. At this time the Russians were also in control of the Baltic states and NATO had bases and forces stationed in Germany. It was thought that at some point Russia would cross into Central Germany through Poland and even today Poland is still a politically important country because of it's location. This is one reason the Russian invasion of the Ukraine is so important because it shows a new aggression to reform the Baltic states and a new Cold War.
