Prior to becoming a state New Mexico was home to many people including Native Americans. The state was also explored and colonized by Spain. There was also many revolts and wars. Then it became Mexican territory.
From 1821 until 1848. The southern portion of the state was purchased from Mexico on 1853.
Washington was admitted to the Union as the 42nd state in 1889.

Originally, what is known today as New Mexico formed part of the Territorio de Nuevo Mexico (New Mexico Territory) as well as some of the Sonoran Territories (specifically, the Mesilla Valley which is now part of southern Arizona and New Mexico). Both territories belonged to Mexico.During the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848, Mexico lost the New Mexico Territory. Later on, by means of the Gadsden Purchase in 1853, Mexico sold the Mesilla Valley to the United States.
He became President of the United States on March 4, 1853.
The Spaniard Juan Perez was the first to land on the Washington state coast in 1774. It was once part of the Oregon territory but became its own territory in 1853. In 1889, it became the 42nd state of the US.
