Orthodox Christians use the original Nicene Creed, as set out by the First and Second Ecumenical Councils.

The creed is as follows:

I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible;

And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only-begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God; begotten, not made, being of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made;

Who for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man; and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; suffered and was buried; and rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and shall come again, with glory, to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end;

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life; who proceeds from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the Prophets;

In One, Holy, Catholic (meaning universal), and Apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the remission of sins.

I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

Why did the roman cathiolic and eastern orthodox church split?

They had a disagreement over the Nicene Creed. The creed originally said that the Holy Spirit "Proceeds from the Father," but the Pope in the 10'Th Century added "and the Son," which upset the Orthodox Patriarchs.

What is a filioque?

It is Latin for "and the Son" and comes from a phrase in the Nicene Creed referring to the Holy Spirit " . . .who proceeds from the Father and the Son." It is a bone of contention between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches as the phrase was inserted at the Council of Nicea. Before the Council is read, ". . .who proceeds from the Father." The members of the Orthodox Churches do not accept the "filioque" addition to the Creed.

What other creeds do we have besides the Nicene Creed?

There exist also the Apostles' Creed and the Athanasian Creed, but the Eastern Orthodox Church only uses the Nicene Creed during its services. In the Catholic Church the Nicene Creed is primarily used during Mass. However, the Apostles' Creed is sometimes substituted, especially for a children's Mass. The Apostles' Creed is used most frequently in daily prayers, such as the rosary. The Athanasian Creed is extremely long and almost never used except as an historical reference.

Do Christian's have a decleration of faith?

What is the filioque clause in the nicene creed?

filioque means " and the son". In the creed we say "We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,who proceeds from the father and the son". Orthodox religions say "who proceeds from the father through the son" which caused church divisions.

What is the definition of orthodox?

Why was there a division between the orthodox and Roman Catholic Church over the nicene creed?

This has to do with a rather complex issue regarding the nature of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and particularly the Spirit's place within it. The Orthodox church felt that the description of the Trinity in the revised Nicene Creed was incorrect. Interestingly, they had no problems with the first revision of the Nicene Creed but disagreed with the second revision issued some 60 years later. The problem was that this revision added words to indicate that the Holy Spirit proceeds/is generated by both the Father and the Son, and to Orthodox thought this diminished the place of the Father by making the Son "too much" the Father's equal.
