Thunder.
Thunder
This boom, called thunder, is the result of lightning instantly superheating the air to tens of thousands of degrees. The air expands rapidly as a result, generating a shockwave.
Lightning appears when condensed water (think of clouds) turns into ice crystals and water droplets, and wind smashes this together, because of this energy the wind puts in this hail, positive and negative particles are separated. When there is enough of a charge difference lightning strikes either moving from one part of the storm to another or hitting the ground. Thunder is the sound produced by lightning. It occurs as the lightning instantaneously heats the air to tens of thousands of degrees. The air expands rapidly and sends out a shockwave.
This results in the sound of thunder. The extreme heat around a bolt of lightning causes air around it to expand rapidly. Then, it cools quickly and contracts. The rapid movement of the molecules forms sound waves heard as thunder.
Thunder is the sound created by lightning. The sound is generated by rapidly expanding gas near the electric arc of a lightning bolt.
Thunder
The crashing or booming sound produced by rapidly expanding air along the path of the electrical discharge of lightning.Thunderstorms result from the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, which are also called "thunderheads."Thunder is a sound produced when air expands and contracts quickly. Air is instantly heated when lightning passes through it, causing the expansion. The hot molecules move outward and collide with colder molecules. A giant air wave results that produces the sound known as thunder.
Thunder is the sound made when lightning violently heats air, so that it expands rapidly (think explosion)
There are different things that make thunder and lightning. Thunder is made when air expands rapidly which causes the noise. Lightning on the other hand is created by an electric discharge.

The zig zag line is not made by thunder but by lightning. It finds the easiest path from the cloud to earth or to another cloud and this is not always straight, it would seem. The noise of thunder is made by the air, which gets heated a lot by the lightning and expands, collapsing in again rapidly after the strike.

They form when hot humid air goes upward and mixes with an electric force
The Sahara is rapidly expanding due to desertification.
