Inactive Volcanoes are considered dormant or sometimes inaccurately deemed "asleep". This dormancy is caused by the cooling of Lava as it comes out of the volcano, some of it cooling at the top, and over time completely "stopping up" the volcano, making it unable to erupt.

∙ 8y agoIf a volcano is inactive, then it is either dormant or extinct. Extinct volcanoes have no access to a magma supply or have never erupted, such as the Hawaiian ridge. Dormant volcanoes have documented eruptions, but have not erupted recently, such as Yellowstone.

∙ 11y agoThe vast majority of states do not have active volcanoes. There are active volcanoes in California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Wyoming. Other states do not have active volcanoes.
