What impact would a theocracy have on its citizens?

The impact would depend on which religion the theocracy is based on. If it is based on a religion where everybody is treated fairly it could work a little like a democracy where the citizens would have some influence in what happens. Also the ruler of the theocracy would have an effect as well. The citizens could be trained to be good hardworking people or the ruler could work the same way as a dictator.

What are the dangers of theocracy government?

Theocracy or religious rulers tend to enacct very strict (religiously based/inspired) laws and are intolerant towards any citicen who is not a member/follower of their religion. They also tend to see things in black and white - after all God's word is supreme and absolute - doing God's work is a justification for anything.

Did the idea of republicanism held that the church possessed the sole power to rule?

Not going to work. There are lots of Republics, but if the Church is 'ruling' you have either a Kingdom, where the King is annointed by God or you have a Theocracy where Church members hold the power in Government. Neither of those examples is a Republic.

What is puritan theocracy?

Is a Theocracy a limited or unlimited government?

Theocracy is an UNLIMITED form of government because the theocrat is not constrained by the rule of law. The theocrat is perfectly capable of committing crimes that are prohibited by law by a process of self-exculpation. There is the counter-argument that theocracy is a limited form of government because the theocrat is held to account by divinities or by religious doctrine (even though he is unaccountable to the people). This is fatuous because theocrats are often able to redefine religious doctrines or parrot new words for the divinities that will exculpate them of what should be a crime.

How does theocracy work?

(from Greek. the·os′, god, and kra′tos, a rule), a rule by God.Essentially, there is a blurring, or possibly no distinction between social/political life and theology/religion. Whatever the external form of government, in a true theocracy you will probably have clerics or theologians making final pronouncements concerning the legitimacy of laws and legal cases/appeals. There is no appeal beyond religion. One segment of the population accumulates all of the power. Representative government, and the idea of the will of the people, become things of the past, even if they are given nominal or disingenuous consideration. Utterly no aspect of life is considered outside of the reach of a theocracy's authority, since the deity behind the theocracy is presumed to be the creator, and he created YOU.These ideas should send shivers down the spines of people who might be entertaining the idea that a Christian Republic would be wonderful. It is not religion, faith, Christ, Allah or religious devotion that is the problem. It is the concentration of power, beyond the influence of those governed, that is the problem. And it is a BIG problem. A strong civil government that is religion-neutral and religion-tolerant (as long as NO religion is allowed to violate the civil law) is the best solution. No civil government is or can possibly be perfect. But some are workably flexible, open and religion-neutral. No ideology, no faith, no special interest group should be allowed to accumulate all of the power. That serves no one and hurts everyone. Of course, it 'serves' the handful of people who manage to get to the top.
