The problem is that she probably won't want to be only friends with you if you don't want to date her. In your situation I'd tell her that I like her, but don't love her. Then I'd tell her I know she probably won't want to be friends with me, but I'd like to, and offer her help with getting over me and finding someone else. You'll pretty much have to pick up the friendship building yourself completely until she accepts you as a friend and only a friend.

if they are a christian yes, if it is a member of the opposite sex their spouse may not be to happy about it and don't you dare let it turn into more than a friendship. but there really is nothing wrong with being friends with someone. how ever if they are from some other religion probably not
