The firing order on most GM V8 engines is 1-8-6-3-5-4-7-2.
On the distributor cap, if the distributor shaft and timing chain have been properly installed, the number one terminal is closest to the carburetor or throttle body.
CORRECTION!!! 18436572 is the correct firing order

Sounds like your timing chain might have jumped a notch. Timing is set by rotating the distributor. There is a nut underneath the distributor that locks it down. Timing mark is on the harmonic balancer, sorry I don't have the setting handy. I would start by checking the timing with a timing light. VBdenny
It does not have a timing belt. The cam is chaindriven.
you turn the distributor and use a timing light
I think is 8 degree BTDC ...........
No need to if the distributor was not moved.
0 degrees in drive bypass disconnected
same as a 350
turn the distributor
10w 30
To add, this is a 5.7 v8 engine.
It's 4 degree BTDC ... A computer controlled distributor on SBC engines is set at 0 degrees. There is a special procedure for setting the timing on computer controlled distributors. Consult the Chilton or Haynes manuals for specifics.
