It was the first war to be televised, so people could see what was happening to both their own soldiers and to the people that lived in Vietnam. News coverage of protesters also brought to the minds of the people that there was opposition to involvement in what was in fact a local political issue. There is Little doubt that television coverage of the war in Vietnam brought a transparency to the war that was hitherto unheard of in any war. And politicians were starting to be held accountable for the day to day decisions that were made. add to this some of the heart breaking scenes of Innocent people being killed and maimed, and many people that went through the trauma of ww2 paused to think where this was leading.

Best answer...watch either the film (movie) or TV series MASH. MASH, although written by a Korean War vet & originally about the Korean War; was scripted by Hollywood screen-writers during the Vietnam War and was "really" about the Vietnam War. All actors reporting for filming (reporting for work) in Southern California knew they were playing Vietnam & not Korea. Besides, the way Hawk-eye, and the other doctors acted in MASH...uniforms, hair cut styles...etc. would not have been tolerated in 1950-53 (Korean War). But they certainly were in Vietnam (the hippie era).
Opposition wanted to end the war.

Nearly ALL Vietnam War books show opposition to the Vietnam War, even by the men fighting it. See: List of United States Military Books.

Anti war protesters were a variety of people. Many were college students and some actors got involved as well. The Vietnam war was the first war seen every night on the evening news. Newsmen like Dan Rather stood in the jungles of Vietnam with the troops and often fights were seen as part of the report. This turned many people against the war. We haven't seen this with the Middle East because the reporting has been controlled. Watching a war play out on TV was true reality TV.
